Metacognition

Metacognition means thinking about thinking. This term was coined by John Flavel,  he emphasized that meatcognition consists of both metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive experiences or regulation. Flavell divides metacognitive knowledgeinto three categorie: Knowledge of person variables, task variables and strategy variables.

Person Variables. This includes how one views himself as a learner and thinker.

Task Variables. This includes knowledge sbout the nature of the task.

Strategy Variables. Knowledge of strategy variables involves awareness of the strategy you are using to learn a topic and evaluating whether the strategy is effective.
